Another thought

December 16, 1773 to 4 March, 2009. 85912 days or 12273 weeks or 2822 months or 235 years.

No matter how you look at it, it has been along time since we stood up to the tyranny. British parliament enacted The Townsend Act. The Colonies argued that they did not have an obligation to pay taxes when they had no representation. So all the taxes in The Townsend Act were repealed, save one, the taxes on tea. On December 16, 1773 a few hundred men, tired of the Townsend Acts tax levies and many other issues with the British parliament, marched to Boston harbor disguised as Indians and dumped 3 ships worth of tea into the harbor.

Given the state of our current parliament, I mean government, it only seems appropriate to wonder if it is time for another tea party. Not so much because of the tariffs on tea, but simply because we have no representation. Knowing that if we wanted to do anything about it, it is almost impossible, Congress ignores us. Maybe we need to remind them who works for whom. Maybe we need to mail a tea bag to our congressional leaders. IF they figured it out, would it do any good? Probably not. They get elected to represent us. So maybe they are. Maybe they are doing what we ask. Maybe we need to ask, no, TELL them what we want.

Of course talk is cheap and right now I am as guilty as the next guy. I sit here in my safe, warm chair and type out thoughts, sometimes coherent ones, hoping to inspire someone to start the ball rolling. When all along maybe I need to be the one that gets the ball rolling.

Maybe I need to start the Tea party of 2009.
